The gaming industry at large has been struck with accusations of sexism over the recent years, and its most passionate and vocal consumers remain largely male. But if the numbers are true, we may be looking at an incoming sea of change as game developers look to accommodate their rapidly growing female audience.

Sony’s presentation to investors, as cited by Push Square, also contained other interesting tidbits. The console maker claimed it had the highest ever launch year sales in fiscal 2020, with 7.8 million PS5 consoles sold. In comparison, the PS4 sold 7.6 million units in fiscal 2013 when it was launched. Of course, Sony could’ve sold a lot more PS5s if it weren’t for this pesky chip shortage that the world is going through right now. As mentioned before, Sony expects its wildly popular PS5 to see supply shortages into next year. (Source: Push Square, Sony. Header image: Sony.)
