It opened at the top spot in all markets, breaking records for the highest all-time industry single day in Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Taiwan and China. On its opening day in Malaysia, Endgame grossed US$2 million (RM8.2 million), which is close to one-third of what The Force Awakens made in its entire run (US$ 6.6 million).  In China, the film has already grossed a staggering US$107.5 million, which according to Forbes is the second biggest single-day gross for any movie, only next to The Force Awakens‘ US$119 million North American opening day gross.

Last year, Avengers: Infinity War had a global opening weekend gross of US$640.5 million (US$382 million outside of the US), and this doesn’t include China where the film opened a couple of weeks later. With Endgame opening same time in China as the rest of the world, there is little doubt that the film could be heading towards a record-shattering opening weekend gross. If Endgame grossed more than US$100 million in China on its first day, there is little doubt in my mind that it could hit the US$300-400 million mark by the end of this weekend. Infinity War grossed over $US257 million in the US in its opening weekend. Endgame, which hits North American cinemas today has reportedly sold five times more pre-sales tickets than its predecessor. Worst case scenario, it’ll make around US$280 million, though, it’s very possible that the film zooms past the US$300 million mark as well. The film has the same sort of insane hype all across the globe. A representative from a local theatre chain, TGV cinemas, has mentioned that Endgame sold 70% more presales tickets than Infinity War. With all of that in mind, it seems likely that the film could gross around US$900mil – US$1 billion opening weekend. God bless the house of mouse! (Source: Box Office Mojo)
