The system is designed to be integrated with other devices in the Ring ecosystem such as its smart locks and doorbell cameras. Therefore, if one of the other systems detects any form of intrusion while you are away, they will trigger the Always Home Cam to deploy its drone and have it patrol around your home for any suspicious activity. Naturally, users will be notified via their mobile devices if such instances are to happen. So on top of being able to check on their home through real-time security footage from their camera-equipped Ring devices, users could also view a live feed from the patrolling drone as well. However, the company noted that the drone will fly on predetermined flight paths and will not be controllable by the user when it is in operation. Additionally, the Always Home Cam dock will keep the drone fully charged when not in use.
The drone itself features shrouded blades and collision-avoidance technology for autonomous flying. As an intended feature, the Always Home Cam drone is designed to hum loudly while in flight to scare off intruders – somewhat like a robotic watchdog. But rather than barking, it loudly whirs its rotors instead. Hopefully that’ll be enough to annoy burglars and have them leave your residence if the scare tactic fails.
The Always Home Cam is priced at USD250 (~RM1,042) and slated to go on sale in 2021. Ring products are often imported due to the lack of an official local presence, and it is unconfirmed if the drone deploying security system will ever see its way to Malaysia after its release in the US.
