VGC reports that the custom SUP3R5 consoles sold out in less than 20 minutes. Not particularly surprising, considering the extremely limited run of only 304 units, and the high demand for a PS5 in general. Though the company’s site struggled to cope with the high demand. This resulted in some people claiming to have been charged without getting a confirmation of their pre-order. SUP3R5 then promised that those incorrectly charged will be refunded. But at the same time, the company announced that it will be delaying the international launch of its custom PS5 console to later in the month. This was likely to improve its website’s ability to cope with high traffic.
Hours later though, the company announced that it was cancelling all orders and issuing refunds. It claimed that its team received “credible threats to their safety”. SUP3R5 has also since deleted its Twitter account. According to VGC the company will sell the console again once it deems it safe to do so again. The report also alleges that those who managed to actually place a pre-order is accusing the company of scam tactics. As mentioned, the whole affair started with SUP3R5 standing on shaky ground to begin with. But it’s certainly surprising that it was ultimately done in this way, rather than the legal way. Which leaves those looking to a different-looking PS5 with Dbrand, and CustomizeMyPlates. The latter of which having already faced Sony Interactive Entertainment’s legal wrath. (Source: VGC)
