Previously, we’ve covered that UniSZA experimented to hold convocations virtually with the aid of robots and video conferencing. UiTM, on the other hand, had thought of another interesting approach by utilising green screen technology to allow students to simulate a convocation experience on a smaller scale. Once applied, they will be notified via SMS and are invited to visit the campus in order to receive their certification and have their graduation photos taken. At campus, graduates are then provided with graduation attire after registering their attendance at the reception desk. They are then lead to the green screen area where they’ll be photographed with their certification. This image will then be manipulated by staff to include a backdrop, as well as UiTM’s chancellor or vice chancellor presenting the certificate to the graduate.
Those who brought along family members will also be able to have group photos together at the campus in a separate designated area as well. UiTM claims that the entire process will only take about 15 minutes to complete. All of the procedures on campus mentioned earlier will maintain social distancing and sanitation practices as well.
The green screen approach is actually pretty clever, and even eliminates the need of requiring various individuals to be in the same location or have any form of physical contact. Undeniably for most graduates, it may not hold a candle to experiencing a real convocation ceremony. But hey, it’ll be a neat story to tell your friends and family one day.
